1. Office Information

Where are you located?

We are located in Gig Harbor, Washington.  Harborview Pl. is off Ringold Street, which is off of Peacock Hill, near Paradise Theatre.  Please click on Directions for further information.

I have health insurance.  Will it cover my treatment with you?

It depends on your plan.  You can provide our office with the 800 number on your insurance card along with the subscriber’s SSN and date of birth, as well as your name and date of birth, if different.  With this information we can inquire about your benefits for behavioral health.  Some policies do not cover relationship, couples or marital, and or family therapy.

Am I required to pay for your services at the time they are given?

Yes. We take Visa and MasterCard, as well as personal checks or cash.  Your insurance company (if you are covered) will be billed at the beginning of each month following treatment, for the whole previous month’s treatment.  The insurance company will be advised to reimburse you directly, rather than our office.
2. Therapy

How do I go about setting up the first appointment?

The best way is to call (253) 853-5800, e-mail Carole@therapy4life.com, or fill out our contact us page.  You should have some idea of what time of day or early evening is possible for your schedule.  In general, we see clients from Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. till 7 p.m.  Please remember that the first session will be 75 to 100 minutes in length.

My wife and I are having problems.  Should we make an appointment together or separately?

I recommend that both of you come in together, if your partner is willing.  After meeting and talking with both of you, I can recommend either individual or couples therapy.

How long does individual therapy take?

It depends on your condition, and how much effort and time you are willing to put into your healing and growth.  You will be given an estimate at your second or third session when we create a treatment plan.

How long does couples’ counseling take?

Usually 12 weeks at 75 minutes per week is enough time.  Occasionally, there may be interruptions, which make it a few weeks longer, and occasionally couples are able to finish in 10 or 11 sessions.

How long is the first session, and what should I bring with me/us?

The first session is from 75 minutes to 100 minutes, depending on what assessments need to be completed.  The first follow-up session is 75 minutes.
Couples sessions are always 75 minutes, unless we decide differently at the beginning of treatment.  Many individual sessions are 50 minutes, but some are 75 minutes (particularly if we are using EMDR or hypnosis).

How much experience do you have in treating individuals, couples, or adolescents?

I have been in private practice for nine years.  Prior to that time, I worked under supervision for four years, so I have been seeing individuals, couples and adolescents for a total of 13 years.
